Magaly Sáenz Somarriba

Research Consultant

I am interested in development economics, especially with its intersection with. public economics, labor markets, and rural development.

Currently, I work at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) conducting research on agricultural productivity in Latin America and evaluating the effectiveness of agricultural interventions in the region.

Before joining the IDB, I worked with Dr. Anne Brockmeyer at the World Bank evaluating the impact of policy reforms on tax compliance and administration in Latin America. We have a paper (forthcoming) where we look at Electronic Payment Technology and Tax Compliance exploiting different instruments of a Financial Inclusion Reform in Uruguay.

I hold a Master’s degree in Economics and Applied Economics from the University of Delaware and the University of Massachusetts Boston, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Universidad Thomas More in Nicaragua.

Furthermore, I have prior experience working at FUNIDES, a Nicaraguan think tank, where I focused on labor markets, impact evaluation, education, and social protection.
